Description:
Baryte, also known as Tiff or Heavy spar due to its high density, is a mineral that can appear in a wide range of colours from colourless to red, going through blue, yellow, green and so on. The transparent ones are cut as collection gems, despite their lack of hardness. Baryte dust, which is white, is used as a contrast for X-rays of the digestive system as it is harmless to the body. This is known as a Barium meal. It is also used during wartimes and times of scarcity to mix in with flour, and thus increase the weight of it.
