Description:
At the end of the 19th century an itinerant German musician arrived in Rio Grande do Sul. He had worked in the agate mines at Idar Oberstein (Germany) and had emigrated to Brazil when they had run dry, and thus left him without a job. He was astonished to discover that the walls that separated the properties were made of agate, and even more so when he realised that the landowners paid people to take away these bothersome rocks which were a treasure in Europe. This is the incredible story of how these huge mines were discovered, mines that have allowed the common man access to a gem that for centuries was reserved only for kings and emperors.
